Apply for EARLY CHILDHOOD

JCPS offers an Early Childhood program for children who will be 4 years old on or before August 1st and qualify based on household income and/or special needs, and children who turn 3 years old on or before August 1st and have an Individual Educational Program (IEP).

This comprehensive preschool program is designed to prepare children in five areas -- General Knowledge and Mathematics, Language and Literacy, Health and Physical Development, Social Emotional Development and Self-Help.

The program is offered full day, five days a week and is free to all eligible families. Transportation is available. A universal and developmentally appropriate curriculum emphasizes meaningful early childhood activities to develop the whole child. Ongoing student assessments are used to measure skill development and mastery.

The Early Childhood curriculum supports the district’s vision for students to be ready to thrive and succeed in Kindergarten and beyond. Parents are regarded as educational partners, and home visits and parent conferences are an important part of the Early Childhood program.

Apply for STUDENT TRANSFER

The student transfer application may take 15-20 days to process, longer in the summer due to volume. Approval is not guaranteed. Transportation may not be provided. The student transfer application window for the 2024-2025 school year is Monday, May 6, 2024 - Friday, March 7, 2025.

  • Sibling Transfers - A family will request a sibling transfer if an incoming kindergarten student is separated from an older sibling due to new zone boundaries. Sibling transfers will have the highest priority.
  • Before School/After School Care Transfer - A family will request a before/after school care transfer if the childcare provider lives in another zone, and the child needs bus transportation from the childcare provider’s address to a new school. The application should include the address of the provider, as sometimes we can move the child to a school in the zone, other than the ones requested.
  • Start Time/End Time Transfer - A family will request a start time/end time transfer if the new bell schedule is presenting a hardship. The daycare and start time transfers, together, will be the second highest priority.
  • Consistency Transfer - A family will request a consistency transfer if they have moved to a new zone but wish to remain at their current school. Consistency transfers will generally be approved unless student has been enrolled in a new school.
  • Safety or Bully - A family who requests a transfer due to a safety or bully issue will receive information on filling out a Call Plus form, and they will be encouraged to work with the school counselor on a safety plan at their current site. These transfers will be approved as capacity allows.
  • JCPS Employee – A JCPS employee can request their children attend school at their place of employment. They can also request for a school at another level that is close (ie Seneca HS staff member requests Goldsmith ES).
  • Convenience/Distance – A family who wants a school closer to home, lives in the walk zone but desires a bus, wants a school near place of employment, or other convenience/distance issue. Transfers for convenience/distance will be processed last and have lowest priority.
Students may not request a transfer into a magnet school or program.

Elementary students who move, and desire a new placement, should update their address, and fill out a new Elementary Application.

Middle and High School students who move should update their address and enroll at the new zone school.

Student Transfer Criteria

  • Elementary School Students: Capacity at the requested school
  • Middle School Students: Capacity at the requested school
  • High School Students: Capacity at the requested school
